In the last section of my novel, Mia is still contemplating if she wants to wake up, or die. Her conflict is mainly man vs. self because her problem is based on her own decision. When she remembers her Dad's song "Waiting for Vengeance" she thinks her parents are sending her a message. Now that she realizes her life will be too different if she comes back so she tries to find a way to leave. When Adam finally visits her in the ICU he tells her that he needs her to stay, not for him but because she still has a whole life ahead of her. He tells her she got accepted to Julliard school, and that he would do anything to be with her. When he puts headphones on her playing her favorite Yo Yo Mamma song, she feels all these emotions and all of sudden the first thing she feels is Adams hand, and see's a bright light. So in the end Mia deciding to wake up. Even though she has lost so much she remembered the sound of the cello, and how much she loved Adam that she wasn't ready to let go.

Mia says “I have a feeling that once you live through something like this, you become a little bit invincible.”.  Have you even been through something that has left you feeling like a you had a crater inside that you could never fill? Did you feel like it made you stronger emotionally? Explain how you felt, why you felt this way.

In the novel "If I Stay"by Gayle Forman, Mia is the main character.  Mia is a very simple girl, she is passionate, shy, smart, and kind. She usually doesn't speak her mind because she is afraid of what people might think of her, so she keeps everything inside. Their family is very close knit but Mia has always had the feeling that she never belonged.  She felt like she didn't fit in her family, or with her boyfriend and his friends, throughout the book Mia is very doubtful of herself and her choices. While she is in a coma Mia is very confused, on whether she wants to stay or leave. She is trying her hardest to make the best decision that benefits others and not herself, this is definitely one of Mia's flaws. She tries to put others happiness and concerns before her own. I feel she does this because she doesn't believe in herself, and the fact that she doesn't feel like she belongs is prolonging this decision she has to make.

Have you have ever been placed in a situation where you felt like you didn't belong? Do you think Mia should have tried to reach out and speak her mind instead of hiding her feeling, and trying to benefit others instead of herself ?
